AMCC Holding Limited was incorporated in April 2014 under the directorship of Dr. Alessandro Astolfi and Dr. Paul D. Mitcheson.
It has since grown into a specialist engineering consultancy with clients in oil and gas, consumer electronics, electric vehicles and sensor networks and regularly take on sub-contracts for larger engineering projects, where we bring specialist knowledge. We also perform due diligence for investors and legal cases.
We have recently incorporated AMCC Consulting Operations Limited, a fully owned subsidiary. Operations is responsible for executing HW and SW projects, while Holdings administers and execute due diligence and large contracts.
We have recently developed an energy-autonomous drone which has been demonstrated to work for remote infrastructure monitoring. The AMCC drone prototype has been proven to render the monitoring of remote assets and infrastructure autonomous. The drone relies on the energy harvesting system developed by AMCC. This comprises a bi-directional electronic motor driver and power processing stages to recharge the main battery. These power stages rely on high-efficiency, compact gallium-nitride components, designed for minimum weight. The hardware runs a maximum-power-point tracking algorithm, developed by AMCC, to extract maximum power from the environment at any given time.
AMCC has also developed communication systems for remote localization and for tracking of moving objects, and image processing algorithms which allow real-time image reconstruction and scene-separation.
AMCC has its own office, laboratory, and workshop space in London, SW18, which is fully equipped with a small wind tunnel, laboratory instruments, 3D-printers, CNC and workshop tools for electronics/mechanical prototyping and manufacturing. The availability of these resources allows significant cost savings, for example renting a wind tunnel would cost in excess of £2000/day, and outsourcing manufacturing would increase the costs by a factor 5 (while also increasing the development time).
Alessandro Astolfi graduated in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rome in 1991. In 1992 he joined ETH-Zurich where he obtained a M.Sc. in Information Theory and the Ph.D. degree, both in 1995. In 1996 he was awarded a second Ph.D. from the University of Rome. He is currently Professor of Nonlinear Control Theory at Imperial College London.
He is a director of AMCC Consulting, where he brings his expertise in control, modelling and mathematics
Paul Mitcheson received the MEng degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 2001 and the PhD degree in 2005, both from Imperial College London.
He is currently Professor of Electrical Energy Conversion in the Electrical Engineering Department at Imperial and sits on the Exec Committee of the UK Power Electronics Centre.
He is a director of AMCC Consulting, where he brings his expertise in power and analogue electronics.
Jonathan Hazell received the M.Eng. degree in Electrical and Electronic engineering in 2012, and the Ph.D. degree from Imperial College London, London, U.K., in 2018. In between his degrees he worked on MMIC design for SELEX Galileo.
He is a senior consultant engineer at AMCC Consulting, where he brings his expertise in RF and power electronics engineering, high voltage, mechanical design and simulation modelling.
